The Role of Gospel Music in the Black Community and the World

Traditional gospel music has so alongside our American culture for centuries, from far back in the 18th Century. Built around the words of praise and worship, was the essential message of gospel music is a theme of thanksgiving and praise to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. These words are used a lot of repetition. It was said that many of Reconstruction-era African-Americans still not learned to read, and therefore the repetition of the music was easy to remember. It has also inspired those who know the words to a simple song.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, is the Gospel, a revolutionary upsurge in the heart and the spirit of renewal and non-Christians. The message of strength, endurance, faith and the promise of new life in freedom. Gospel songs like “Sweet Home, Sweet Chariot”, inspired words of faith, which has been promised a better life, and that the day of salvation is near.
